Default b18c5 with b16a1 rods/pistons?

would a b18c5 bareblock with just the crank be a good combo with the b16a1 piston & rod?

i used the c-speedracing compression ratio test w/a b16 head and it gave a 11.3-11.6 compression ratio.

what are the pros/cons of this combination of pistons and should I opt for the usdm b18c5 piston/rod?

I've come to know the B16A rods as "skinny wrist" rods. Compare them with the B18C rods and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Just stick with using the ITR pistons and rods. Rods are pretty cheap used for a set of four, and the piston prices are comparable b/w b16 and ITR pistons. The ITR pistons (JDM and USDM) are also coated on the skirts with a low-friction coating....I'll refrain from using any particular name b/c I have no idea what it is....I've heard 3 different materials used.

will pr3 piston&rod combo fit on an USDM b18c5 block? cuz with this combo including a b16a head, it will yield the same compression as using JDM ITR pistons...

question is ..will they be THAT much of a different between the jdm itr combo vs. pr3 combo?

cheapest i've found the jdm itr combo is around $400 used, whereas.. i can get the pr3 combo for $100. <low on funds also>

and with the extra compression from 11.1 from 10.6 (USDM ITR), how much estimated different would be seen?

any suggestions?

I just don't like the idea of using skinny wrists. I've seen used ITR rods for $150, but you'll have to measure the big and small end bores to make sure they come into spec.

The JDM ITR pistons and ring packs are like $315 from Leo @ JDM Spec Perf (http://www.jdmspecperf.com).

Yeah. Good point. I recently priced all the parts for the freshening up of a B18B engine, and it came up to be around $1000 just for the parts.
