Hey! What's up
I have got a 96 GSR that I am replacing the head gasket on. Which way is up? The stock honda head gasket has one side with is entirely black. The other side has the same black coating on most of the surface but around the bores there is a silver ring.

Does this silver ring go down towards the block or up towoards the head?

the ring goes down and the side that SAYS UP goes up.

 

Thanks for the feedback.... Well it's obvious that I really don't know which way it up

I looked for any indication of the "up" side and couldn't find and words, arrows etc. Do you remember where on the gasket it says "up"

Ok, get the gakset on the block right. There' s a silver tab w/ numbers on it which should be UP, meaning, facing the sky, on the front passenger side of the car. It doesn't get caught under the head, it's right under the VTEC solenoid. Also, there is a stamp that says UP

 

if its a factory gasket it will say UP around the #2 or 3 cylinder if i remember right.

Just to follow up......

Thanks for the head's up on the tag. That is the only indication of the top or bottom of the stock honda gasket that I have.

I searched but there is not "up" printed elsewhere..
