quick head gasket question

Default quick head gasket question

i have a d16y8 head gasket that im putting on right now. which way does it go on? which side faces up? theres 3 layers to it, one black, the middle is silver, then the last layer is black/silver. which layer is pointing up towards the head?

thanks for the help

p.s. - am i supposed to replace the head dowels?

If I am not mistaken, the serial number on the gasket should be the upside. But you can still put it on backwards, but as long as you have the correct side up, it should be easy to figure out which way the gasket goes.

And no, the dowel pins dont need to be replaced.
