b18c using tons of oil
I Have a 6th gen civic powered by a b18c. I purchased it just a few days ago as-is. It runs fine but uses tremendous amounts of oil. I would say about 1 quart every 150-200 or so miles. Supposedly it was just "built". I have yet to tear into it since I just got home, I had to drive it some miles after purchasing it. The price was right so I knew I would be doing some work, and actually I don't mind it. I did a compression test and get about 170 PSI in all cylinders. I know it should probably be around 250. In my mind the only way for oil to get out since it doesn't leak a drop is through the exhaust. I watched while someone drove by under hard acceleration and to my surprize rather than the blue smoke I expected it emits a black sooty looking smoke. I know oil to be able to get in through the rings or the valves. based on the observations I have posted I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion as to which it might be. It sort of seems that the oil isn't really being burned up all the way or I figure I would get the blue smoke effect. That makes me think that perhaps it is running down the exhaust valve shaft and being pushed out after ignition. I'm going to go after it tomorrow so any tips on what to check right away will be helpfull. Thanks.
