An LS motor won't be much more cash and it is more tunable being DOHC. More power out of the box too

Plus, you can always turbo it in the future and turn it into a monster

Or, LS/VTEC

Think about it before buying that d-series

I agree with the posts above.

With the Y8, you'll have to build it up in order to make some power. Keep in mind the Y8 block is the worst D16 block out there. Go with the LS!

hmmm, good looks guys, yeah i talked to some cats about it today and they said the same. whats the revlimiter on an ls?
and what build up mods or Strengthening (dont think thats a w0rd) mods would you recomend for a 75 shot, and the 100 and 150 shots to come... prob bad idea but i wanna be diffrent, prob b00st it in the future but until then ill spray on the hell out of it and i plan on hiding all the lines and gauges and whatnot just for kicks, should be fun... ive changed my mind so mutch about what im gonna do but this is pretty solid.

Where the hell are you getting this information!?!

The D16Y8 (96-00 EX) is one of the strongest D series motors.
Right next to it is the D16Y5 and D16Y7 all of which have larger girdles than any of the B series engines.

The only true weak point in a D series motor is the rods. You spend 350 dollars on Eagle rods and you can push a D16 to 250+ whp easily.

Stock the D16Y8 can handle 9.5psi of boost and push out 200 whp. Some have pushed the stock engine to as much as 12 psi. I wouldn't do that, but some have.

So, a $2,000 B18B swap or a 350 dollar engine with some new rods at 350 dollars more.... = 700 dollar engine capable of the same power as a B18B.

AND if you blow the motor which is cheaper to replace!?!

hell ya, you go spade, tell him! I would go with and have the D16Y8 and I have others in the yard, cause they are so inexpensive to buy. I am totally impressed with how well this SOHC is doing with just bolt ons on it. so in short I say D16Y8

i'd say y8 with a nice turbo kit. just because i would hate to spend the money on motor mounts and all that other bs when going b series.

Go with the B18B... It'll last longer than the D16 on Noz.

I run 14.27 on a N/A D series,,, a 65 shot would drop me in the low 13's,, for far less than the cost of a swap

I'd go LS if you have the cash. You get a **** load more torque than the Y8 and, IMO, has much more potential.

It depends what your WHP goals are. Do the numbers, lets say you want 200WHP, definitly go d-seires. lets say you want 500WHP, it'd probably be cheaper in the long run (maybe not) to go b-series. I think if the costs are the same for your HP goal, go B-series, a little more low end power. Anyway, see how much it'll cost for each setup at a specific HP and then build accordingly. Keep in mind resale value as well (with a b-series swap you have a d-series motor to sell now, or a b-series to sell down the road when your done with the car). Good luck.
