that comment is kinda like saying 'what the hell does stroke have to do with motors!'..for motors like ours that live in high RPM range or even just a really reliable motors in general they prefer a certain rod lenth to stroke ratio (aka: R/S ratio). anyways..if you have a large stoke, then youll want longer rods so you can reach that "perfect" r/s ratio and if you have longer rods then you need a higher deck height..else it wont fit..!

What the hell is a deck height and what does it have anything to do with motors, sorry i'm just learing about motors.....fill me in!
here's an ****-o-jee for ya.

Think of deck height in terms of a cup.

You have a small & large cup:

Small cup = 1.6/B16A engine
Large cup = 1.8/B18A-C engine

Now, physically a large cup is larger/taller than a small cup, right? right.

There's your deckheight difference.

B16 & B18 engines are just like that.
Why? Because of rod ratio.

Rod ratio is the calculated angle to which the rod is moving at, along with other variables. If its angled too much aka bad rod ratio, then it wears down the piston walls giving it an oval shape over time. So, there's certain specs that a motor needs to be within to keep a 'good or decent rod ratio'. Raising the deck helps keep a good rod ratio and prolongs the life of an engine.

you can do the most with B18 blocks even with its decent 1.58:1 r/s

Nevertheless very informative.

funny that there has to be a caviat to saying the word "gay" you know, there was once a day when it just meant happy. funny huh. to me the rainbow still reminds me about a story of an old dude, a big wooden boat and a pretty cool promise

then it wasnt about B16B or B18C5... but hey this thing didnt sink... cool. Land rules.
im tired.

The deck height is simply the vertical distance between the crankshaft centerline and the deck surface. At first, this may just seem like a number that people like to obsess over. But it is important. A higher deck height means that you can use a longer rod with a given stroke. This improves the rod ratio, which improves revvability and reliability at high RPMs. This is why a B18C will be more reliable than a B16A with an 87.2mm stroke.

survey says... no-sir-ee

B18C r/s ratio = 1.58 due to a stroke of 87.2 mm, rod length of 137.9 mm
B16A r/s ratio = 1.74 due to a stroke of 77 mm, rod length of 134 mm

Come on people... get with the program...

DECK HEIGHT IS ONLY PART OF THE EQUATION!

wait a minute... are you talking about putting a B18C crank into a B16A block? if that's the case then I totally agree w/ you.

You throw the r/s ratio even further out of whack unless you get a dart block or put a deck plate on your existing block.

Personally I think people are taking this r/s ratio thing a little too serious. According to the web boards, the Titanic wouldn't have sank with the right r/s ratio.
