CTR engine has to be specially imported into the U.S. The retailer has to pay for shipping charges, customs, and deal with all that mess. Not to mention the B16b has more horsepower, and more torque than your run of the mill USDM B16a. Thats an exclusive JDM engine and isn't very common over here, so more$$$$$

Also the big part has to do with the fact that the b16a's have been in production since 90 or so, so there's a ton of them out there, many of which are somewhat old. Also the trannies on the old b16a's are cable instead of hydro. The only cars that came with the b16a's in the US are the Del Sol and Civic Si. A b16a out of a Del Sol is probally pretty rare, but not too expensive, but one out of a Civic Si is gonna be pretty expensive since it's so new.

It's just much better. It has better cams than an ITR, an ITR head (with the associated valvetrain), b18C block (not internals), best pistons, ITR tranny. It's just the bomb b16. Totally different than the b16a. It usually costs the same as a b18C5 because of the rarity.

If you have to choose between the B16b, and a gsr engine. I say just save the money and go with the B18C. The CTR engine is overpriced in my opinion.

oh...uh...,... ya, yes, YES I am. when I cruise by and rev my stock engine there car shutters. When my stock exhaust roars they tuck there tail between there wheels and take off as I watch them run away from me. No thats not me losing its them running!

i would defenetly choose the b16b , cause if you want to make your car a sleeper you could use all 1.8 internals and people would still think that you are running a 1.6 .

Another drawback of the B16A and B16B are the lack of torque due to the smaller displacement. I think the A's get only 111 ft. lbs. while the B's get like 120 ft. lbs. or so. I could be wrong though but its somewhere in this area. Compared to any stock B18C which makes well over 130 ft. lbs. of torque!

The majority of race tuners in Japan quickly stroke these motors to 1.8 in order to gain the extra torque, since the B16B and the B18C have a similar block. The B16A has an excellent rod/stroke ratio which make it perfect for forced induction and the availability and price can't be beaten!
