is b16a swap worth it?
alright im getting to the point where im needing to swap out my stock d-series for a much awaited b-series. im thinkin a b16a swap cuz its cheap and will be good for my first swap. learning/driving. i know i could handle a gsr/r swap no prob i just dont know if its worth the 3500-5k....also i think that a b16 will be slow at first but part of the fun will be building it up....i just dont want to rush, get a b16, realize its a slow piece, and a $ pit, then end up swappin it out for a c1/c5. im on a budget cus im rollin out to japan in a week or so and i just wrecked so $ is low. also im a student so cash flow is extra weak. my Eg with any swap, will be my daily driver/ autox/street. thanx

i've got a b16 in a 93 coupe... it's not the fastest, but it worked for me, it was cheap, and the money i had left over i could use to build it up. it's also a hell of a lot easier to put in compared to an H22 if you've never done anything like this before. plus depending on what car you have you might be able to keep your boltons. really depends on what your looking for, but never count a b16 out.

well what engine are you starting out with? If its like civic CX engine, then i say go right ahead, but if its something like a d16z6 or a d16Y8 then why don't you just turbo it? It would be faster than a B16 easily, and would cost you a little more than half the cash.

I just went from a stock DX to a JDM B16A a few weeks ago. Did it at home with some help from friends and it was too easy (HMO). The first time VTEC kicked in and I broke loose going into third I had no regrets. Gets about 27-30 mpg city.

that's a pretty good time for a b16
now just knock a full second off that time and you MIGHT be able to keep up with a h22 in a car that ways 2290lbs "buddy"

For the difference in price between a b18c1 and a b16a, you can be over halfway to a turbo. Not to mention the b16 head flows better, and if you ever want more torque it's better to build an LS/VTEC or CRVTEC out of a b16 rather than a b18c1.
true i have seen i 93 hatch with an h22 in it. and it runs 13.9. the h22 is stock. if i had a 92 and up civic that is what i would do. with a few mods you could be in the 12's for pretty cheap.

Someone hasn't been researching lately. That rumor has been cleared up a long time ago.
For just a little more than a B16 swap, you can get a full 2.2 liter DOHC VTEC motor. That would spank a puney "high revving" B16 any day.

well i pretty sure and h22 has more whp than 160 but i have seen one that ran 13.9 stock and that is in utah wtih an elavation of about 4300. so if you were at sea level i can see you running 13.4 with i/h/e.
It seems like anytime someone mentions one engine then people tend to jump in and suggest what's "best." Well truthfully there is no "best" so that's why there are things called choices or selection. There are no hype to B series motors just as it's foolish to say that an H22 powered Civic won't handle unless it's going straight. There are pros and cons to every setup, it just makes sense to do research. Ride in or possibly drive someone else's car that is similar to yours with a setup you want if possible so you can get an idea of what to expect.
