b16a rebuild
here goes, i'm in the process of rebuilding my jdm b16a and have already had the block honed. i'm going to be putting ctr pistons in instead of the stock pistons. i do however have a few problems or questions depending on how you look at it. first i'm going to assemble the motor but i didn't disassemble it, meaning i'm not sure on what rods go to which cylinder. how big of a mess-up is that going to be? also the thrust washers that go in between the 4th saddle and the main, exactly how do they go back in, and do i need to buy new ones or can i reuse the old ones? any insight is greatly appreciated, can't wait to feel the difference of these ctr pistons.
IMO some of the questions you are asking makes me assume that you don't have any previous engine building experience... I would highly recommend having someone there that knows what they are doing and a manual is a must. Do it right the first time.

If you're staying with the stock 81mm bore and only doing the CTR pistons then you're not going to see a signifcant difference between that and the stock P30 pistons. You're only raising the compression by about .4 which is a good increase but without any other internals, CTR/ITR cams, etc. it's not going to be that much better.

Actually he is going from 10.4 to 11.6 to one compression so he should se a nice gain. I would reccomend getting a helms manual for your del sol, It has all the info you will ever need to reassemble your engine.
i don't really have a good background when it comes to rebuilding an engine, but a couple of my buddies do. the thrust washers were the only thing that really have me confused. i do have a haynes but it looks like they go ontop of the crank. is that correct?
Well since the block should be upside down when you put the thrust washers in they kinda do go on top of the crank. There should be slots in the block that the thrust washers sit in. Once you've put those in(forget if you should lube them or not) the crank goes into it's journals and basically on top of the washers.
I think the ctr's should net you about 10hp. Not sure if it's at the crank or at the flywheel but I made 162whp with ctr pistons, i/h/e <--mediocre, and a skunk2 intake manifold.

sweet thanks, after i took a closer look at the block i see where they go. i thought i'd see a little bit of a hp change. hope it gets even better after i have everything tuned right.
