B16A identification
I have a JDM B16A with a '92/PR3-1 block stamp. It has the 1xxxxxx serial number configuration. It has an unidentified cable tranny which I think is original, but there is no way to be sure. Some of the usual identifying features have been altered (eg. valve cover swapped, wiring changed). It has a second gen type IM.
The only web info I've been able to find that really addresses this is here
http://b16a.honda-perf.org/prelim.html which seems to indicate that the motor is from a DA6/DA8 and is the 170hp/10.4:1 setup.
Would this be considered a first or second gen motor? Does anyone know if the chart ID is correct based on the block stamp?
Thanks!

92 is a second gen motor. if it is the original tranny and is cable it it had to come out of a 92-93 integra. what color are the plugs on the distributor. 92 and up should have grey plugs and the gen 1 has white plugs. any other questions?
The original distributor has been replaced with an MSD, and re-wired. The caps are the old white type. I was told that the motor originally had grey caps. I don't think any of the caps are original - the harness was taken from an '88 CRX, so it's got all white caps.
I was going by the block stamp and the IM, which is the second gen configuration. I can't see the spray bars clearly enough to tell if they are extruded, but I've heard that some of the early second gens had cast bars, so maybe that's not an accurate indicator.
I agree, I think it is an Integra motor and tranny. It's definitely more powerful and geared shorter than any other B16 I've ever run. I was unable to locate a tranny code stamp, so no dice there. My guess is that it's the original tranny.
I thought anything block-stamped '92+ was second gen (?) also, wouldn't a '92 block stamp be from a '93 chasis?
Thanks again.

i thought b16a1 is first gen 92-95 si and b16a2 is 96-up second gen engine
and pr3-1 should tell you that it is obd1 or first gen engine
and another point second gen engines dont come with cable trannies
so in conclusion I think that this is a first gen engine

I should clarify that I'm primarily interested in the applicable stock bhp and cr figures, but the generation thing is interesting too
This is a JDM motor, so it's neither B16A1 nor B16A2, simply B16A.
I am under the impression that the switch from OBD0 to OBD1 was in '92 and the switch from OBD1 to OBD2 was in '95. In any case, this motor is running very well on an OBD0 PR3 ecu. Apparently there are some second gen's that came with PR3 ecu's, although I think they are all designated as PR3-J00 or PR3-J51 (?)
Generally I agree about the cable trannies, but '92 seems to have been something of an odd year (certainly transitional). For example, this is the only cable trannied B16 I've ever seen with a "second gen" IM. Also, I can't say for certain the tranny is original.
Does anyone know anything about the motor identified in the third row down the chart in this link? http://b16a.honda-perf.org/prelim.html ? That's the motor I think it is... and if there is such a thing as a second gen with a cable clutch (judging by date, bhp and cr) that would be it.
Thanks!
