Default b16a head question?

This is a two question.
1. Check out pics of my b16a head at my site: http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4291860803
i don't know actually what wrong w/ it I need to get redone to it.

2. I bought a block recently and I found some black stuff on top of the pistons when you look at the top part of the block. I hope that I asked that right.

you have to realize you purchased an internal combustion engine, so when you take the head off and look at he pistons, they are not going to be spotless. The black stuff is just carbon composite from the cumbustion of the fuel. Not sure if that is the answer you're lookin for.

Take of the excess carbon with a brass brillo pad you can get at the drug store or supermarket.

You don't have to have the pistons 100% free of the carbon. It's not a bad thing if there is a thin layer. Can you say thermal shielding and combustion catalyst.

Piston tops and combustion chamber. The brass brillo won'tt leave abrasive grit.
