Default b16 tranny question

i just recently had to rebuild my tranny in my turboed hatch. i was told that the gears in the bad tranny were SIR gears and the ones that are in there now are just regular b16 gear ratio. is there that much of a difference in the gear ratios between the two? would it be enough to cause my car to only boost half of what it was. i also feel like i have no top end now..... please help

Your trusty mechanic blew smoke up your *** by the sounds of it.

doesn't sound like you know up from down on your own car tho.

I would have stopped the mechanic right after he said that he "couldn't get sir b16 gears, so he used the regular ones"

It is a good idea to be sure that your technician is trustworthy and is equally important that YOU be savvy, as to not get the wool pulled over your eyes as you seem to have.

i didnt pay for the tranny to be done. it was all free. and i did see the third gear syncro and the reverse gear and the shifting forks throuout the hole thing. my only question is the gear ratios and how close they would be.

So.... you're wondering what the difference is between the b16 "sir" gears that you had and the new "non-sir" b16a gearset that you were given to rebuild the trans.

well, by the sounds of it... the one he took out was genuine b16a gearing, and what he installed sounds like ls gearing. A mod i would happily do for freee for any sucker that doesn't know enough to stop me. IE: you.
