Default b16 hesitates...

Hi. Yet again im having a couple little problems with the way my 1st gen b16 is running.... Here is the scenario. Im driving along, foot steady on the pedal cruising along. When i go to give it a bit of gas it hesitates. I have to give it more gas to get it to break out of this hesitation it does. Its kinda pissing me off. Do you think the o2 sensors wires are crossed?

Also,it pops or backfires on a rare occassion. Its kind of an every now and then occurence. What gives? I checked my timing and that seems to be ok. I dunno whats going on. I fixed the previous problem it was having with the tach dancing and crappy performance in vtec. It runs amazingly but i just need to get that little problem fixed. Thanks all. ~Ryan~

could be your ignition system. check your plugs, wires, and distributor.

I would definitely suggest swithching your 2 02 wires around.

A quick fix to see if your O2s need to be reversed is to simply unplug them both and then drive it. If the hesitation goes away, plug both O2s back in, unclip the pins from the ECU and reverse them.

Hey thanks alot guys. I figured thats what it might be. My friend told me the same thing happened to him when he did his swap. Ironically enough he did the vtec wiring for me. I guess he messed it up a second time

Ill try pulling those out and see if the hesitation stops, if it does what wires do i switch around? what are the pin numbers that i have to swap around?

Hopefully this will fix the little problem. Ive got this car running great. Do you think that will fix the occassional pop from the exhaust? keep in mind its a really rare occurence.
I wanna actually go out and enjoy this thing. I love it so far and i bet this will make it even better. Sure beats the hell out of the d16 thanks again. ~Ryan~

if it still continues, it really sounds ignition related. Perhaps your ignitor and/or coil is going bad....that's super common for 89-91 B16A distributors also. If this turns out to be the case, you can use your ignitor and coil from your SOHC distributor, in your B16 distributor.

Wow, i am honored to receive a reply from the one and only katman! I recently saw you mentioned in a shout out in super street magazine. Anyhow, since im a lazy guy and i havent gone out in the driveway to pull those two sensor plugs out im not really sure yet. If the coil is the case, i do have a buddy that could give me a coil pack from a sohc d16. Would it be a bolt on or would i have to do some "hondifying" This is my first swap and i want things to run perfectly. I had a strange problem with the ignitor earlier on in the week and i fixed that. Needless to say it was a problem cuz i got beat by a pos domestic. Yeah, it was bad.

Anyhow ill get out in the garage once it warms up a few degrees here...bout 28 degrees right now. Thanks for all the advice ~Ryan~
