Default b16 b18 or h22...

right now im cursed with an automatic 95si del sol.
i wanna swap it, but i cant decide what is my best/cheaper way to go.

i have a very limited ammount of money, so thats my major limiting factor. i was trying to keep this under 2k, but thats near impossible.

one major requirement for the swap is converting my tranny

option 1
h22 for $2300.
parts for tranny conversion $400.
axles/halfshaft $200
engine mounts $600.
shipping $250

thats just under 4k for a h22, is there a cheaper bang for the buck engine? i heard the h22 tranny sucks, and its not good under high power. is this true?

please help, i've searched, but nothing really helped

obligatory car pic-

please help, thanks in advance guys!

I'd say stay away from the B16 unless your going FI. As of right now I'm biased towards the H22 (hopefully I'll have one mid-summer), but your claims are bs. Theres nothing wrong with the tranny, the gears are just long, and very few stock trannies are good under high power.

i think the b16 is to common in a del sol. i would really like to see a h22a in a del sol. h22a are very popular obviously and i think u should go with one. i really dont like b seiries engines. cuz of their lack of torque. even though that is a problem with a lot honda engines. i think u should go with the h22a. im not a del sol guy so i dont no if there will be enough room. but im sure theres a way.

hmm... you want a new engine for under $2000? Because your's lacks torque. First, on such a tight budget you will need to be doing all of the labor. Second, goto: http://www.importbuilders.com/ and read up. If I was you this is what I would do. I'd buy a b18 block and have it sleeved and bored to 84mm. It looks like you can pick one up with this already done for between $1100-1400 in the classifieds. If you want to do it yourself, sleeving costs about $750 and boring $250. So about $1000 in labor + cost of a used b18 short block. Other than that you will need a crank, rods, pistons, and a few misc things. If you are lucky you might find some poor soul who has already put a whole block together and must sell it at a loss. If that happens and you do all of the installation yourself, you MIGHT stay under $2000. Good luck!

but remember that he has a dseries motor in it, you need the tranny, some misc mounts, ecu, and axles. Plus the auto-manual conversion parts. I don't think it is possible to do this under 2k, maybe even 3k. I think you would be unhappy with a b16 for sure, I'd look into a gsr or the h22 if you are up for it.

look... all you have to do is get a b20z vtech conversion..... its a crv block with any time of vtech heads.... i have a b16b tranny with lsd and b18C4 heads (jdm) thats are fully pollished, with titanium valves, retainers, springs, cams, cam gears, all skunk 2..... i only spent around 2,400, for the block, heads, tranny, ecu, axles..... the good thing about doing this is that you can buy this one peice at a time... it took me 4 months to get all the parts i needed to do the install.... but it all works out... remember to upgrade the brakes..... that was a lesson well learned for me......
