Ok here is my problem. I was going to swap a B18cR into my car, But i have heard it messes with your handling and ride height, or some garbage like that. So what i figured is i would would take that extra money that i saved from the CR swap and put the money into the head of the B16B swap. Like toda spec b's rev to 9200 and have fun with that. My main concern is it holding up road racing wich i know both would. But i still would like to hit a low 13 second 1/4 out of it and i know they are both very capable of that. What would you guys pick the b16b With Crazy head work into the crx, or the B18Cr With mild head work? I dont know wich one to choose.
The b18c5 is a heavier engine than the d series and that is the only thing that could mess up the handling or screw with the ride height. Just get some stiffer springs, and some shocks that offer a little bit better damping and you'll be fine. Either engine is very capable or crazy power, however the potential for the most power comes out of the ITR engine rather than the CTR, simply due to more torque (remember horsepower is calculated by using torque and engine speed as the two primary variables).
I would go w/ the B16.
If you are goint to road race, weight distribution will be a huge factor. I'm not sure how much heavier the ITR motor is, but I'm assuming it's a considerable amount.
Both motors give great power out-of-the-box, but I would prefer to mod the B16. Since you will more than likely have to keep the car n/a, the B16 lends itself better to producing n/a power. Throw on some good cams and you have a high-revving, well-geared car.
I have also heard that the ITR head is useless for doing headwork on since they took too much material from the factory, but the B16 head flows more than the ITR head!
