axel question
Yea I would first check the clutch then if it all checks out good maybe there is something wrong with the diff... Make sure you have the axles plugged all the way into the diff.... If your clutch checks out all good then go over the things that I just said... Good Luck
abs and non-abs axles are interchangable....they are the same size, design, construction..... The only difference is that the abs axles have a pickup on them for the abs system to read. If you put non abs axles in an abs car the system won't register the pickup and the abs won't work....thats the only difference.
I'd check to make sure your axles are still together before assuming its a clutch problem. Checking to see if its the clutch is much harder than checking the axles.
Recently a friend of mine did a 5spd swap, he used rebuilt axles from some local parts store. After a day of driving the car wouldn't go anymore. It would rev up, but wouldn't move. he assumed it was a clutch problem too. However after further inspection revealed that the passenger side axle shaft had come out of the outter joint, and the outer joint had seized.
As you know the differential in our cars puts power to the wheel w/ the least resistance (the wheel thats spinning). Since his axle was no longer connected to the wheel it had very little resistance on it. So, the tranny sent all the power to that one axle, it just spun around and around but since it wasn't connected to the wheel, the car didn't move anymore.
good luck.

It's a good idea to get a hammer and a screw driver and tap out the ABS spline if you don't have ABS. Sometimes the splines on non-ABS cars make a noise because they are rubbing against your suspension and sometimes your axles will not go as far into the hub as they should. I change axles all day, every day, I always have to tap out the ABS spline on people's cars that don't have ABS.
ok caz when i was under the car i pushed the axlel all the wayinto the sline and it didnt click it just went in and i could pull it out with out any resistance so im geting new axles
