AWD civic???
i've seen a guy do that. its not designed for any kind of real horsepower. he blew the thing out the first launch at the track. it wasnt a crv, it was an old civic wagon with the awd but i'm sure the same thing would happen.
They cannot handle more than 100 whp.
It doesn't work. It costs TOO much money and would be cheaper to convert to RWD.
Also, drivetrain modifications I.E. FWD to AWD or any other WD is illegal.

No offense but I don't understand these posts. We put a man on the moon, of course we could drive the rear wheels of a civic. Why would you want to spend that much money on something so inane i have no idea. Regardless, if you had the resources to do something like that and were really interested, you wouldn't be asking about it here.
I'm going to have do say that I support this guy. Why do crazy stuff like this? Because it's cool! It's innovation! It's fun! Why be the same as everyone else? Ok, so there's a big chance that it won't work. So what? That's part of the fun of life...

What about having 2 seperate drivetrains, like the twin engine AUTO tiburon?? if someone put two ITR engines in the car....mmmm AWD limited slip differentials... think about that!
I have an AWD Civic...it's actually my mom's car that I built for her. It's a 91 Civic Wagon 4wd with a 99 EX D16Y8 SOHC VTEC with a Zdyne conversion ECY, AEM, exhaust, Konis, GC's, GSR wheels, big brakes and more. Its a 6 speed too, the 4WD transmissions in the Civics had a gear below first, a granny low gear. It's a fun little car for my mom.
Regarding putting a CRV driveline in a newer civic...yes, it's possible, but the cost is prohibitive and it cannot handle as much power as you'd want to put in it. It's far easier to do the swap on a 4th gen civic, but then the power limitations are the same.

Gee can we say honda rally? Also with AWD from the crv or the 4WD from the old civics would be nice and they would not need as much power for racing "no traction problems" now wouldn't that be nice
Just get an AWD JDM civic (EG), i was sitting behind one today in traffic, they have a SOHC ZC Dual carb (105bhp) engine.

92-95 Civics were available in Japan as AWD sedans, but they were not built for durability, more of a good traction safe family car.. not an off road setup or racing platform.

I think what this person is bringing to the table is the question of adapting a CRV drivetrain (its a B series after all) The problem lies in that more than likely there is a center transfer case that needs to be engaged for 4wd. That takes up considerable space and takes away ground clearance. Also the gear ration in the transfer case is not adaptable on the fly quick enough to make going from 4low to 4hi effective. But you could probably tow a real drag car with it. It would be a fun project if you had a CRV drivetrain lying around, lots of spare time and beer. However hacking up a 5th or 6gen civic in most peoples pocketbook is out of the question.

So a CR-VTEC in a CR-V is out of the question because of power handling and delivery?

For the most part that is uncharted territory. There are a few CRVtec CRVs that I have seen posted on various boards. It seems your infering that the transfer case is a weak link along with the axles. I dont believe this to be the case. It is just inplausable to launch in 4low (lets assume a top speed of 25mph in low) then to switch to 4 hi. I beleive the 1st generation transfer cases were manual (might still be). Find a friends jeep or any 4x4 nearby and try just putting them in and out of 4hi and 4 low. Often it is a hassle. I suppose if you keep it in 4 high and launch you will be fine, yet again my rambling led me off the main point
