i just got these phantom autometers for oil pressure and water temperture. i was wondering does anyone knows the specific instructions on installing these or any diagrams that might help me out. it comes with instructions but still i cant understand what they are talking about. if anyone has any experience with these autometers please help. thanks.
The oil pressure is an easy one, but I've never done the water temp gauge before.
If the oil pressure is mechanical, then all you have to do is wire the power to the gauge. When you go to hook up the hose to the motor, you want to look on the back of the block for the oil pressure sending unit. WHen you find that, take it out of the block, hook a brass " T " up to the sending unit and re-secure it in the block. Once you have it screwed back into the block, hook up the hose from your gauge up to the open fitting in the " T " DONE

where is the oil pressure unit? can i purchase a brass T at any hardware shop? and what hose do i use? is the hose sappose to come with the whole oil pressure kit??
you do NOT want to attach the T directly to the block, you want to remove the unit, attach hose in it's place, then run it to the unit with the T attached mounted on the frame or firewall. if you place the T directly on the block, you run a high risk of having it break from vibration, then bye bye oil and bye bye engine.
There is an attachment at this post that will help.
The oil presure sender switch is to the driver's side of the oil filter. It is sticking out of the block with a single wire leading out of it. It will be covered in a rubber boot. In order to remove the switch (drain oil first) you need a 24mm DEEP socket fitting for a socket wrench. The torque specs for the switch are 13ft/lbs.
The threads on the oil pressure switch are BSPT (British Standard Pipe Thread Tapered). The fittings you can find at your local auto store will be NPT. Not compatible. There for you will need one of the adapters I posted over at teh ENDYN board to connect the Oil Pressure Switch to the Brass 'T'.
Mount the Tee to your firewall with some zip ties with 1/8" nylon tubing going from the block to the Tee. You will need a 1/8" BSPT (M) to 1/8" NPT (F) adapter to attach the NPT 1/8" tubing to the block.
I've posted all this before over at the ENDYN board, and also at the DSCR forums.
Maybe I should put together a how-to.
