Default Automatic Transmission Interchangeability Question

Yes Ive searched...

I am looking to buy a 93 civic EX auto for a pretty good price but the only thing is the owner says it needs a transmission.(It slips)
I have not looked at the tranny myself so I do not know for sure if it does in fact need a WHOLE new tranny...
IF it does need a tranny, Will 96-00 civic EX/DX autotrannies work in 92-95 civics?

I just need to know if newer civic trannys work or not. I know they will bolt up, Im just not sure about any sensors that it may be equipped with...
Thank you in advance HT
