Auto Window problems...
car: 1994 Honda EX Accord
I know honda's have problems with older automatic windows. Lots of my friends had problems with the window falling off track and what not.
My Problem is first of all, the window's scraping against something and makes the most hideous squeel going up. Also, it's starting to fall out of track a little so when it comes up, instead of going smoothly between the rubber seal to close tight, it comes out a little on the ouside and smashes the seal so it's not air tight.
WHat I'm wondering is, I've taken door panels off plenty of times to work on the car, BUT, you still got the metal panel that's in front of the window. How do you get to the window? Is it possible to take that metal cover off the inside of the door? I looked at it quickly but it seems almost like it's welded on.
Let's say I end up wanting to change my window and the rubber seal around the window...How would I go about taking the door apart after taking the plastic panel off?

Another thing i forgot to mention is on the outside fo the window, ther'es streaks of scratches on the window...so it's almost like something metal is scraping the window causing problems...but i can't see becasue of the inside metal panel which I'll have to take off...
Yea, there's access areas but they're so small and hard to work through...and if I want to change the rubber seal aroudn the window, it seems you have to crack open that metal panel to get to the bottom part of the seal. I may be wrong since I was just looking at it a little while I was stuck in traffice pissed off at how crappy that whole door is.
I had the window jump track in my Civic once...got the punks at the dealership to fix it under warranty, though.
Anyway, I just looked in my Haynes for Civic/Teg/CRV to see window fix. Accord is probably almost identical. Sorry I don't have a scanner or I'd get it for you
.
The description is pretty complex (photos showing odd bolt locations that I wouldn't be able to describe in words) but it looks like its overall pretty simple to fix with just a screwdriver and small socket set. You *don't* have to remove the metal panel at all. Just pick up a Haynes manual for your car (maybe $12-15) at an auto supply store for your car and you should be able to realign window and the existing rubber if it isn't torn or excessively worn. Good luck!
The manual is also just a good thing to have, especially if you ever want to remove something in your interior or engine bay without breaking off the ultra-fragile hidden tabs found on every single part (damn honda engineering).

Well, i DO know how to fix a window that fell off track. (Done that a couple times for friends with Civics). But, it's almost as if in my case, the actual guides or bars that raise/lower the window are broken...thus the window is pushed outward as it goes up and pops out slightly when rolling up each time, which in turn ruined the rubber because it was left like this for so long by the previous owner. And it's not really possible to check for bends in these parts through the small holes in that metal panel...
