Auto Transmissions ?
I'm selling my 1990 Thunder bird SC and I'm going to have some cash to buy a Honda. i got about $3.000 to spend.
the thing is i know nothing about Honda's and I'm looking for a car with a Automatic transmission. i hear the manual transmission cars are great car and can go up to 300k miles and still run good. but are the Automatic transmission cars just as good as the Manual shift cars ?
are some worse than others ?
is there certain types and years of Honda's that make really good automatics ?
im looking for something very durable since every light im at i act like its a drag strip and punch the gas till i hit 5 miles over the speed limit. i do the same when getting on the freeway. i try to get on it as fast as i posibly can. very fun in my Supercoupe passin on the outside jsut before the lanes merge
any help would be appreciated since i have no idea when it comes to Honda's.
please dont tell me to get a Manual because I'm not gonna get one I'm looking to buy in the next couple weeks and would like to know what kinda options i have and what type of car i should be looking at.

Well, I have a 1995 Civic DX w/ an auto tans. and it has 240k miles on it. That lil' B7 is still runnin strong! lol. And if you drive like you say you do, no car will last long, i think u should buy an old mustang and beat the crap out of it...
well i plan on getting a 93' Mustang but thats later in the future. i need something with a Durable transmission for now. something between 1990 to 1995.
i havent had any problems with any of my cars so far. but i figure since the motors seemed to be so much better im wondering how good the transmission are built since i dont hear much about them on the automatics.

my auto dx had 170k mi, tranny worked perfect when I pulled the motor. Dude I bought it from used it as a pizza car so that's alot of city driving, and I beat the **** out of it like you mentioned and even took it to auto-x events. auto tranny gearing is very long, an auto civic will be at least 1 second slower than a manual in the 1/4 mi.

and usually Auto tranny cars are not abused as much as a manual one. but when you go in for a service i think its a little more than a manual. Other than that thre shouldnt be any problems.
the C4 in a mustang (or your SC for that matter) will take any abuse you throw at it.. its the garbage T5 manual that came in them you have to watch out for
honda auto's are fine until you start making some power.. get a prelude automatic.. they are pretty nice
