Default Auto Meter Oil temp gauge?

I just got the Phantom Oil temp gauge. Where is the best place to get the reading for the oil temp?

This is an electrical gauge, not a mechanical gauge. Hooking it up to any part of the oil pan or engine grounds out the gauge.
