I've got to ask; are you really talking about an oil TEMP gauge?
If that's really the question then there are two possible ways that you can do it (that come to mind to me).
One way would be to solder a "bung" in the oil pan. You can make a bung out of one of the brass adapters that came with the sending unit. I've done this in an automatic transmission pan for my Chevelle. Make REAL sure that the sending unit will sit in oil and also that it will not hit anything!
Another way would be to plumb a remote filter or cooler. Then mount the sending unit in an aluminum block. Autometer sells these and they call them; "temperature manifolds".
