Default Audio problems

I just installed two 10" Sony Xplode subs
and a 600w Bazooka one-channel amp

for some reason, my bass will just stop, but my factory speakers still work and my CD player keeps playing. the only way to fix it is it restart my car. i went to Discount auto and they told me that my amp didnt have enough ohms(sp?) and that my amp was "clipping" he said that i probly only have 2 ohms and that i would need 4 for my subs. he said i could probly rewire some stuff to fix it (but didnt tell me how) anyone know how to fix this problem WITHOUT having to get a new amp?

your amp is overheating.
get the EXACT specs for the amp and woofers.

there is a way to wire the woofers down in ohms but we need to see how much power the amp makes at specific ohms.

and there is a car audio forum, for future refrence

You can re-wire wour woofers in series. You probably have them in parallel right now (they each have separate positive and negative wires, and are doubled up in the output connectors). Try:

- Positive connection from amp to one woofer

- Negative connection from that woofer to the positive connection of the other woofer

- Negative connection of the second woofer back to the amp

Double check the instructions with your amp, because I am NOT 100% SURE of that connection method...but I think that's how it works. Good luck ~

well, here are the stats for my amp: (oh, and its 500w not 600 btw)
http://www.bazooka.com/productAutoAm...sEL.asp?id=140

and the stats for my subs are:
10 inch cone type
maximum input power: 700w
Rated input power: 250w
Impedance: 4 ohms
Sensitivity: 88dB/W/m
Frequency response: 25-2,800 Hz

since my amp is only one channel, i had to split the connection between my two subs. oh, and are you sure its overheating? cause i could have swore i checked my amp the first time this happened, and it was still pretty cool. but i could be wrong...

Exactly. When you split the connection to two subs, you are lowering the impedance (from four ohms to two). I'll guess that your amp is not stable into an average two ohm load. Currently (no pun intended ), your woofers are trying to make your amp produce more power than it can comfortably. The amp then shuts down to keep from frying. This will not continue to work indefinitely, however *BZZT* *POP*

Try running just one woofer for a while. If the amp doesn't shut down, then you know running two woofers off of it is not cool (again, no pun intended ).

ahhh ok... so, if that IS the problem, then how can i fix is so that i can use both subs safely? will that wiring technique you mentioned in your last post fix that problem?

Well, you could fry your amp. That kind of damage isn't covered by a warranty, either. A serial connection should alleviate your problem, but I be very hesitant to try it if your amp's manual doesn't specifically mention it as an option. You could try emailing Bazooka, they'd be able to tell you if you can do it. The wait would be worth not frying your amp and being out all that hard earned cash.
