attn. tech heads, fuel pump killswitch
hi all, well i went out and bought the parts that i need. i just wanted to get some techinical reasurance and share this with some of u. i went to a local electronics store and got a relay i think would do the job. now i dont know too much about relays, but this one seemed to have a similar diagram. the first pic is exactly what is on the relay. the second is the schematic i got from, http://www.ae92gts.com/ae92gts_antitheft.html. ok now the questions, let me know if i got this right u guys.....

-terminal 87 is where the 12v goes
-terminal 30 to the fuel pump
-terminal 85 gets grounded
-terminal 86 goes to the fuel pump along with 30 <-------(is this right?
-terminal 87A does not get used
-bypass safety switch between 87 & 30
-momentary switch on 87 thru the coil 86 and 30
i know this is may not be the best ani-theft device, but its a start. please let me know if im correct on this. i just hope this does not damage any thing on my car. but i mostly hope it prevents my car from being a statistic. tia
ps - i originally posted this on the audio/security forum

I don't know crap about diagram......this was my plan:
Get a simple on/off switch, put it the path of the ground on the fuel pump and done. If the fuel pumps power cannot ground it cannot run.....am I wrong?

I've been looking over your diagrams and terminal connections. They all seem to make perfect sense to me when converting the second diagram to the first diagram which is a representation of a real relay.

exactly what spade said.. that diagram just makes things all confusing and make people that dont know much about that stuff not wanna attempt to try it... the easiest way is just run an on-off switch cutting the ground of the fuel pump and your good to go... it has to be the ground though because if you do it throught the positive wire, i think you might run into problems burning the switch..
I think the reasoning behind the relay is to avoid sparking if there's current when you flip the switch. If you can remember to flip the switch before turning the car on, you shouldn't need the relay.
I wouldn't worry about the relay, but remember to switch the fuel pump on before turning the key... or, if you forget, turn the key back to off. flip the switch, then turn the key again.

About the sparking, that would be between the posts on the switch and not where the fuel line was cut into right?
And if thats the case, is there a heavy duty switch that would prevent that?
Just wondering what I could do that would allow the switch to be on have no sparks fly.
