Default Assuming I want a sleeved block........

This would be the plan. Get a used b16a or used b18c shortblock or longblock, if I can find one cheap enough this summer and get it sleeved. In the mean time drive my car with stock block and drag 3 low boost, around 6-8 psi with hondata 3b. Once the built block is done(money dependent) install that into my car, and run more boost.

Question is: Gen 1 b16a blocks are cheap as hell, 2nd gen more. Does it really make a difference to get a b16a gen 1 or gen 2 block?? I know the gen 2 has a better head, but I don't need a head, I just need a block. Any downsides to a gen 1 block? Sensor issues?

Thanks,
-Levi

As far as I know (which admittedly isnt as far as most others) there arent any major differences b/w the two. There won't be any sensor differences b/w a pre-obd and obd1 block...if it were going into a obd II car(which has a crank sensor) there would be problems. Compression is different (can't remember the numbers)....thats all that I can think of, I'm sure others here will know more about it than I do. Hope this helps! Later!

I am running hondata stage 3b.....so I have no use for the crank sensor.

I mainly just want to know if the block has the same mounts, uses the same oil pump, etc....

Generation 2 blocks have p30 pistons (higher dome, higher compression) than the 1st generation blocks (pr3). The 2nd gen. block is rated at 170 hp while the latter is rated at 160 lb. I don't really believe there to be drastic differences in the 2.

Probably not. I may get it sleeved to a bigger size, I am not sure though. Depends on if the sleeves still keep their strength.
