Default Anyway to bypass ECU for reverse lights?

I know this is a weird question and it's not even for my car, but my friend is missing some harness for his reverse lights on his Nissan 240sx. Would there be anyway of wiring a relay in for the reverse lights? Does the reverse light sensor put out any amount of power to be able to work as a signal wire for a relay? Or is there some other way of doing it?

WTH, Bypass ECU? A 240 Question?

Is this to pass inspection or something?
It's a just a light, get a switch.

Yeah, exactly, it's to pass inspection. I know a switch would turn them on, but would that pass inspection? We were trying to keep it to where they would turn on themselves when you put it in reverse.

Not knowing how the revers lights work on a 240 I am just guessing but I do not think the ECU has anything to do with the rev. lights, my guess is it will be like most cars a switch on the transmission that power runs to and out of, [when in rev.] to the reverse lights.

What year is the car? 94

Looks like switch is located on the tranny accessed from under the car, there should be 2 switches/sensors on the tranny, the one towards the rear is the rev. switch. 94

It's an S13. 89 or 90. I don't really know how the lights work either, I know it has two wires coming out of it, just like my Sol reverse sensor, so I figured it would work the same. Is one wire an input power and the other is an output power and when the trans is put in reverse it completes the circuit?

And when I said ECU, I really just meant the factory wiring harness type deal. It apparently runs into the fuse box and then goes out to the reverse lights, so I'm assuming I'll also need an inline fuse.

have you guys looked at a wiring diagram for the car? should be pretty clear how it is set up and usually 2 wires are not hard to run if you need them...

I'm not sure about VA inspection laws.
But in NC, My buddy bought a parts car civic, swapped in a H22, wired a horn switch and reverse back up light switch, and he passed inspection down here.
I guess as long as you can get it to work somehow, LOL.
