Any experience modifying/making shift levers?
Ok, so here is the question.
Has anybody out there had any success modifying stock Civic/Integra shift levers?
If so I would love to see some pictures.
I have short arms, somewhat long legs. This combo in my 90 Civic hatchback means that I have to lean forward slightly to reach the shifter in 1st and 3rd gear (and 5th if I had 5th gear...lol). So being the lazy individual that I am, I dont like leaning forward all the time while driving. My solution to this was to bring the shifter back towards me.
Option 1. Heat and bend shifter. Not thrilled at the idea mainly because I would still be very limited and that would sacrifice some height.
Option 2. Cut a stock shifter at the bend. Find a piece of square tubing slightly larger than the shifter diameter. Cut it at roughly 3" and drill 1 hole, the same diameter as the shifter, on each end. Insert the two pieces of shifter into the square tubing and weld around the top and bottom of each junction. This would create a shifter looking very similar to the link below. Mine wouldnt be adjustable, but that gives a mental picture of my idea.

Any insight is appreciated, even negative. Everybody has opinions and I understand that. Keep in mind that I am on a very tight budget, so that is the main reason for not buying something else.

I googled all kinds of ways, but still didnt come across exactly what I was looking for.

that one is close to what i want, but cant justify that kind of money for a shifter.
Thats why I was looking for someone who actually fabricated something to suit their needs.
I did talk to a few people on the topic so I will hopefully be producing one of these shifters soon.
