I'd say its not worth it, especially if all it does is spit out a code. You can jump the service connector and get the blink code instead for free.

The only advantage is that the code checker will give you more descript p codes, which could help determine the problem more then the MIL indicator

There are far more capable units, that will not only pull trouble codes and let you reset them, but also display real time sensor readings.

I'm assuming that = $$$ but I'm curious to know more, any name brands etc I could look up on?

snap on

my shop teacher has a snap on handheld computer, plugged it in and it gave out all the readings from the ecu. pretty tight. but it cost about $5,000. so, guess i'll have to live without it.

yea the snap on scanners are awesome. We have them and the scopes. Between the two of them you can figure out anything
