Default Attn:Gurus...Another timing question...i know, i know....

Alright I know the only real way to tune a car is on a dyno. But the closest dyno in my area is 3-1/2 hours away, so I wanted to get a rough idea of what timing adjustments I should make.

Im about to install an ITR intake cam and manifoldin a b16 w/ aem gears, plugs, wires, intake, header, exhaust, no a/c, no p/s, and a zex 55 shot kit.

Now I read on a gsr site with swapped ITR intake cam, w i/h/e/gears, had advanced the intake cam +1, exhaust -2.5, and overall timing at 18.

Ok, so I guess the question I have is would there be much of a difference with an added ITR manifold, and a b16 rather than a b18c? The dude on this dyno gained 11 hp just from the intake cam, which is pretty impressive IMO, and I'd plan on using those adjustments unless there are any differences I should know about?

I apologize for the length, but had to get it all in. Thanks guys .

Just wait untill you have time to drive to the dyno. If you make the adjustments yourself, you'll probably lose power.

a dyno is the best way to tune a car, especially the cam gears, BUT it's not that difficult to do yourself in the meantime til you go to the dyno.

when i had my B18C1 motor with stock P72 cams, stock IM (w/o 2nd butterflies), JDM DC ITR header and 100 shot DP N2O injection, i played with the cam timing and eventually left it at +1 on the intake and +2 on the exhaust. these settings brought the powerband in at 3K and it stayed strong til 8K. whereas if i advanced the cams more the powerband would shift differently. i tried +2.5 IN/+3 EX, +1 IN/+3 EX, +2 IN/+2 EX, +2.5 IN/+1 EX etc etc. either the power came on early and was choked out early OR it came in late (around 6K) and came on stronger til redline. so in the end i went with the settings that gave me the broadest powerband, from 3-8K rpm, and this worked very well with N2O injection which is important.

when using N2O injection, you'll normally benefit from 1-3 degrees advance on the exhaust cam. retarding the exhaust cam isn't even done with alot of N2O setups.

i realize i wasn't using the ITR cams, the B16A/ITR IM or the B16A block as you are, but you might want to try some settings close to what i've tried. if you know your motor then you'll know the powerband shifts/changes from the cam gear adjustments. i surely noticed the changes.
