Default Another Gearbox Rebuild Thread

Hi, New to Honda and this forum, lots of great info on this place.

Here is what I have:
1995 Del Sol SCCA Racer
Vtec B16 with mods and a GSR LS Box.

We had a new driver running a fresh built gearbox and we 4th now grinds and if I get it in, pops out.

Bought new syncros from Syncrotech. 3-4

After opening this beast, I found a small chip of silver material, has a very small serrated looking edge to it.
Gears all have a groove or two on their faces.

I can post pics of what I am talking about if needed.

This gear box was raced for many years and I am sure it has been over hauled a few times.

questions are, are gear faces on these boxes smooth? Does anyone have pics of new gear sets?
Also, can this be rebuilt with out a press?

thanks for entertaining me..

Another question, working on stripping the mainshaft to replace 4th gear (worn teeth like syncro, and I cant get the tapered ring off right under the main bearing. Ugh.. is there a trick? saw some vids that show it being picked off by hand? Umm, not on mine..

On my d-series tranny the gears had a groove just like yours. I think it's standard.

Maybe if you had posted this in the tranny section one of the tranny gurus would get back to you. They know way more than I.
