Default am i screwed?

i wanna first say, this was a total mistake due to my fucked memory, i was installing an msd sci+ today, everything was going fine till the last 2 wires...i thought i put the right ones in, which was the power ignition and the signal wire (white and red), i got them crossed somehow(but i din't know)so i go to start the car, put ignition on, i see the light on the msd box turn on and smoke came out of the box...i quickly turn off the power, pick up the box and here something rattling, i get sad...open up the box and noticed that theres a thingie that i guess got burnt off...its like a ball but not a full sphere with copper wire wrapped around it...its not on the board anymore...i was hopiong and prayin that if i solder that back on it should be fine...nothing else looked messed up...

These are torroidal chokes, which are used to filter noise from the supply.

If they heated up enough to melt the solder joints, then chances are something else has been damaged too.

Its worth a try to solder them back on though.

No. It takes allot to burn out a power supply choke, that's why the solder joints went first.

My guess is that some other part of the power supply circuit is blown. You cant always know if a component is damaged by physically looking at it.

It may be the power supply "Tanszorb" Zener Diode that's blown. This type of component is always used in automotive applications and protects the supply from input voltage transients. It nearly always blows then the supply rails are reversed by accident.

Your guess is as good as mine, as to where the component is located. Sorry I could not be more help
