Default Alternator Test machines...

I just got my rebuilt Autozone Alternator tested at Checker auto parts, and it came out to be within they're limits, and passed all three tests.

However, when it was installed in my car, it was reading about 17Vs at idle and would increase when I reved the car.

Do these test machines test the voltage regulator, or if it just puts out a charge at all?

TIA,
Bryson

The machines do check the voltage regulator its usually a sweep dial and is very hard to miss if its not within spec.
Hmm, I would have it checked somewhere else.
Either.
1.) They didnt use the correct test chart.
2.) They were not paying attention to the test lights, espicaly the one that tells you if the regultor is "hanging up"(?)

Im still new at using these machines so best bet would be to take it to Another auto parts store have them test it and explain to them your problem.

if you are getting 17v at idle and more when you rev it then you're done with testing. get another alternator.

How do you know your voltmeter is accurate? If its a digital Fluke, then it's probably right.

well I took it back to the autozone that I bought it at, and they also checked it. However, this time it failed so I guess they were trying to test the wrong alternator.

I got an OEM Honda nippon denso and the cars running great.
