Default Alternator Questions

This is a little long to read but I wanted to provide the whole story, thanks and sorry!

I have a 96 Civic CX. It has a 1.6L D16y7 Non Vtech motor in it. I bought it from a small automotive company in New Hampsire. The company was kind of half *** in that the guy I bought it from gave me the shaft hard. The car might have had the engine swaped but I doubt it, since the engine in it is the stock model. So if you have questions, anything is possible with this car.

Anyways, I have but about 5 alternators into the car. After about the third one, I had a mechaninc go through the wireing harness and re-wire it. The alternator that was put in after that lasted the longest of them all but it died like the others. I had a 2000 watt stereo in there for a while, but I took it out. I though t it migh be drawing too much power from the alternator. However, after takeing the stereo out, the alternator still died.

My guess is that somethig is still trying to draw too much power from the alternator. When I start the car the dash lights, head lights, and everything electrical is not runnign at full power. I have to rev the car up when I first start it then the lights will brighten up. It i don't rev the car up and leave it ideling, the car will die.

I thought the car might not have this startig problem in the summer ( i started having the problem in the winter) which it is now, so i have not been reving it. I would start it then drive it. i never let is ldel so i don't know it it would still die.

Maybe the car, is trying to suck to much power from the car and the car can't deliver because the car wasn't reved up and it can't supply the power.

Again, sorry it was so long but thanks alot for any and all help.

Any help might save me hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

Check your fuses to make sure that none of them are shorted. If this car was having a problem of drawing too much current somewhere then is probably was blowing at least one fuse repeatedly. Some dumbass may have shorted it just to get around the problem rather than fixing it. Now you are stuck with the results.

I am saying that the guy before you was blowing fuses and did not replace them, just shorted them out. Check the fuse boxes and make sure that all of your fuses are really fuses and that there is not a piece of wire under one of them.
