Default Altanator/Battery Problem

Ok, last night my (Girlfriend's) alternator went out, as well as the battery died. We tried hooking up a temporary battery, but did it backwards for just a second. It fried a fuse but we replaced it. After that, we put the temporary on the right way and it ran fine until we got it home. We then took the alternator to the auto-store and got it tested. It only put out 9volts. We got a reconditioned one, which we pre-tested, and put out 12volts.

We got home and put on the new alternator, We took the OLD battery off the charger and it started up fine. Then a second later, it bogged down and died.

We tried it over and over again, boggs down and dies. I loosened the alternator belt and tightened it, made no difference.

I came up w/ a theory that her battery was shorted, and was causing extra load on the motor. We pulled it out and put the temp battery in, and it seemed like it made a difference. We went to the store and bought a new battery. Got home, threw the new one on...

Started up, bogged down and died. WTF??? Is it possible the Alternator is still shot? Did i F something up by putting the battery in backwards???

-Sorry, this car is a Nissan Pulsar... If I told you that to begin w/ u wouldnt have read it
