Default Alt Problem

I have gone through 2 batteries in the past couple months and I am looking for some advice. Basically the problem is the alternator is not charging the battery for some reason when the car is idling or at any time unless there is a load on the engine (in gear accelerating). I had to go from a 3-wire plug for my 98 Civic alt to a 4-wire plug from an eg to use the alt i put in and i thought i had the wiring correct but i guess i may have been wrong. Does anyone have anything showing the 3 wires going to the alt for the civic and the corresponding wires for the EG/integra 4-wire plug? I am hoping this is the problem because the charging light wont go off and this only happened i believe after i took out the 3-wire alt after it was making bad noise from a bearing failure.

ok so it turns out i did have 2 wires switched which im hoping will account for the charging light being on. Now there is another problem though, I went to boost the car and it will not turn over. I could hear the start click once but it will not start even hooked up to another car. Any ideas what this could be, could my starter motor be messed because of the battery being dead completely?

Also im sure the battery will not hold a charge anymore but this shouldnt effect the car starting off the power of another car would it?

Ok so the starter isnt turning the engine at all when i crank the ignition. The battery is hooked up to a battery charger but im thinking if it isnt holding a charge then its not likely to be able to power the starter motor. The only thing is you can hear the starter motor clicking but it will not budge the motor. It was exactly the same when the battery was hooked up to another running car so im starting to think that along with my battery being done the starter motor is toast? What do you all think?

would a battery not holding charge cause the "battery light" to come on at idle or when changing gears?
