All motor B18C1 setup
Hey everybody, I'm finally making some good money so time to decide what to buy for my GSR. As of right now all i have is an Iceman CAI and 2.25" ITR b-pipe with Apexi N1 muffler. These are some others items i am contemplating, let me know your opinions:
ITR cams (most likely 00-01) Should i upgrade valvetrain in case i ever get something like Skunk2 stage 2?
JDM ITR 4-1
Carsound cat
ITR pistons (not sure US or JDM)
Skunk2 Intake Manifold
Some type of Vtec controller, maybe Apexi but not sure wether i am supposed to get SAFC of VAFC (whats the difference)
OBD II to OBD I with either Spoon or Mugen program
That is all i can think of but i know there is more, I don't want something crazy, still want it to be daily driven. Also what should i limit my compression to since in So Cal we only get 91 octane? Any suggestions and advice would be GREATLY appreciated.
Basically looking for my car to get into high 13's. Will be doing simple weight reduction like CF hood, maybe lightweight rotas with sticky Azenis.
Edit: also plan on getting some type of motor mounts, an LSD (which one is best?), lighter flywheel, and stiffer clutch

First of all ditch the ITR b-pipe and get a 2 1/2 inch one, with a new cat converter. For Type R cams you'll only need the upgraded valvetrain if you raise the rev limiter, but I'd reccommend some Skunk2 Stage I cams. They're about the same price as the Type R cams but a little more aggressive. Get some Skunk2 gears and a VAFC and tuning and you're set.

What do you mean by tuning? u mean timing or what?

Sup Sergio, I think there won't be any problems if you get the skunk stage 2's and upgrade the valvetrain. 11:5:1 compression is good, streetable, and not too extreme. So I'd get the JDM ITR pistons. I was contemplating about getting those too.
Hey Vu, on a side note Dustin is wondering if you still wanted his RS*R muffler.
Back on the topic at hand....what valvetrain do you guys recommend? should i just get skunk2 since i'm strongly thinking of getting skunk2 stage 2 cams.
Also instead of getting a VAFC and new chip, should i consider getting a lower model Hondata? not the really expensive one. If so, should i stick with OBD II or go to OBD I?

With my jun stage 3 cams right now, i got the jun valvesprings with crower titanium retainers. Got about 48,000 miles on the cams and valvetrain so far and no problems to report. I'm not sure about skunks tho.

its going to depend upon your personal prefernce. Make sure you get the itr lost motion assymblies with what ever cam you get
here is my setup that the engine shop in installing right now. I am hoping for 180-190 whp

portflow ti retainers
ferrea keepers
jdm itr pistons
gsr rods
honda bearings
itr oilpump with 96+ cover
itr water pump
gsr block/head/crank
mugen baffled oil pan (dont want oil starvation)

That is the wrong attitude, when my JUN 3 exhaust cam broke, JUN warranteed the cam and repaired the damage. They even did a super port and polish on the head. They get a big

Lost motion assemblies are like shock absorbers for the mid-rocker arms. The LMA's sit in the head underneath the mid-rockers and support the mid-rockers during non-VTEC operation. When VTEC kicks in, the mid-rockers are locked with the primary and secondary rocker arms, and the big middle lobes of the camshaft push the mid-rockers down, which in turn pushes the primary and secondary rocker arms down, opening the valves.
you should go a little higher on the compression. somewher around 12:5.1. that is even playin it safe on pump gas.

12.5:1 is safe for 91 octane?!? that's not what i've been hearing. people have been telling me to try to stay at or under 11.5:1

If you want to get the full potential from the cams the I would recommend a 12.5cr which is pushing it for 91 octane. I have 12.5cr pistons with a milled JUN3 head and I have no problems (pinging yet). Miller knows what he is talking about.
Thanks for the info guys!
The Celica GT-S Runs 11.8 C/r. On a Production car! So anything above that in the aftermarket scene is purely capable. *within reason* of course. run 13:1 compression ratio with full ignition retard makes no sense. but if you can get away with 12.5 C/r then DO IT
