Default all Green bearings?

I'm rebuilding my bottom end, and I'm looking for bearings. I cant read the letters and numbers on the crank so I read somewhere before that you can just use all green bearings and you'd be ok. Is this true? I remember before, I ended up with like 4 green, 2 brown and 2 yellow, I think. That was a different engine though. Thanks for the help.

Try heating up and cleaning the areas where the numbers would be on the crank. Try using a wire brush to clean it. Be sure to check your bearing clearances also.

i had the same issue on mine, the color marking on the bearings were gone, and couldn't read the stamps on the crank. I bought all green mains, and had them line hone to make sure the clearances were ok. All green may not work for you, unless you hone or polish the crank alittle you would have to check

i wouldn't suggest just settling with using all green bearings. the bearing clearances will be too large if it requires anything else than green. oil will tend to sling off the bearing and crank surface at high rpms. no oil for lube = bad, expensive things. try to get the letters and numbers off the crank so you can get the correct bearings. i had to hold a flashlight at different angles to make out what was stamped on my crank. even after you know the color the factory used, that doesn't give you the final say in the bearing size. if you want to know the proper bearing to use, you're gonna have to use some plastigauge to get the true clearances. btw, autozone has the plastigauge. get the green one (.001") for $1.19

green and brown bearings are almost the excat same size. i had brown bearings in my engine and i used all ACL green bearings. i made sure to PLASTIGAGE the crank to verify the clearance's and they all were in spec. just platigage the motor with the green bearings

Thanks for your suggestions! I'll definitely just plastiguage the crank to be sure. Oh yea, the autozone thing. That's funny cuz I recently worked there and am there all the time. Thanks again.

The difference between a honda green and the next size up or next size down is VERY minute. Its still a good idea to measure so you know what kind of clearances you are working with. There is a pretty big window that will work on mains and rods.
