how big is too big when purchasing an air filter? anyone know the mathematical formula for figuring how big/small you filter should be?

Bigger the better.

3" piping is PRIMO.

 

There is no limit as far as the *engine* is concerned, but practically you have to fit it in somewhere under the hood.

 

I had a 12" K&N Filter on my old Grand National.It was sicklike.

 

The bigger the filter, the less restriction.

and depends on the fiter material too..
those hks form(200, green pad) is very good for air flow..
priced at 20 bucks a pad for every 6 months

 

what kind of air filter you guy use?
i have HKS green mushroom.
size=200, 3inch diameter

 

Just making sure, you're talkin about the filter size, not the intake piping?

 

whats the point of having huge piping diameter if your throttle body is still only 58 or 60mm?

 

Damnit!! Where is the picture of the hatchback with the tractor air filter.

That thing is HUGE.

 

you want your piping just lil bit bigger then the trottle body. if the piping is bigger its not doing anything for you car. the engine will only pull in the air it can use, as for the filter, i dont think that a size should be a big issue. K&N or Injen both have excellant filters.
