Default air dam

do air dams help and do you use them or are they just ricey

Yeah they help, most of them are designed to reduce lift.

Depends upon the design, and the ride height of the car. I'd define *help* in this case to be either helping relieve lift or improving mileage by reducing drag. Honda put the OEM dam on the 5th gen VX HBs to help decrease overall drag, by trying to keep so much air from bouncing around all the aerodymically dirty bits under the car.

Some of the "kamikaze, intruder, warrior, aggressor, ninja" or otherwise big-mouth aftermarket designs aren't designed to help anything other than the owner's ego. IMHO of course.

I use the VX air dam on my del Sol. I dunno' if it helped or not, as I put it on after it was lowered. The car's quite stable at speed though. I'll put one on my '92 Civic Si once I have springs and shocks on it.
