Icon2 Air conditioner problems- Any help?

Ok to make a long story kinda short...the ac in my 98 teg started blowing hot air...tried recharging it and it didn't help. Now when you turn the ac on the car runs like crap and almost stalls. I am assuming the compressor has gone out. I have done some research to see if a civic compressor and bracket would fit but haven't been able to find a solid answer. Anyone have any ideas?

redo all of your electrical grounds.. don't just inspect them, clean them! even if they look clean already..

What year Civic is the compressor out of?

Have you checked the compressor to see if it is the problem?

How did you recharge it and with what? 94

The compressor is the original one that came in my integra I was just wondering if one from a civic (and what yr model) would work for it. I haven't confirmed if it is the compressor yet ...was going to do that this wkend (its been raining and I don't have a garage). My fiance used a a recharge kit from pep boys to try to recharge it. I was just curious to see if anyone had any other ideas of what it may be.

If you have a multimeter, using the Ohms function, check the ohms of the grounds to the battery.. I was able to reduce the resistance of several grounds from 1-0.3ohms down to zero ohms after cleaning all the electrical grounds which is a big deal when you consider that the car has absolutely no rust (cali car) and the grounds for the most part looked clean. If you can, don't do just the grounds in the engine bay, but for the entire car! The dash harness grounds like to go bad thanks to the "rusting" underneath the dash (was never painted)...

Btw op, do you have the helms manual for this car? You should try out the A/C troubleshooting procedure in there as well.

The Teg compressor is a Nippondenso 10PA15C... http://www.4s.com/Online%20Catalogs-...g/Content.aspx 4seasons does not show any other cars that that compressoris in.

You can click back on the links and punch in other Honda/Acura to see if you can find a match, but it is unlikely as the Teg one is most likely spacific to your 98 Teg, probably because of clutch assembly.

Pull your compressor and test it, place in vice, keeping suction/discharge connections up, try and turn clutch by hand, clock-wise only, if it turns plug the suction/discharge openings with your fingers, turn clutch, [clock-wise] if compressor is working you will feel suction on the suction side and pressure on the discharge side.

I need to know exactly what was used to recharge the system, was it RedTek or Duracool? 94

I can't find out exactly what is in Arctic Freeze, there is R134a refrigerant, but there is also a sealer, [never good for A/C systems] and refrigerant oil, [good unless too much is in the system] what concerns me is the "Qwikboost Air Conditioning Performance Booster" if it is a hydrocarbon, [propane] it has contaminated your system.

The proper way to recharge an A/C system is to first do a nitrogen pressure test, find and repair the leaks if any, then have system under a vacuum pump for at least 45min. to boil off any moisture in the system then add the correct amount of R134a refrigerant.

The problem with sealers is they can "clog" up the system, especially the expansion valve, resulting in high head pressures or worse "seizing" the compressor when it is compressing, stalling the cars engine because of the extra load. 94

im having a similar symptom on a 2003 crv, when the compressor gets hot it makes the engine run rough and almost stall when its engaged.
i thought it may be the iac but the only times it happens is when the ac engages.

i really hate to change the compressor without bench testing it but the symptom only exists after the engine warms & the ac is on for 10 minutes.
oh, also neithor of my fans were working so the condensor wasnt getting properly cooled, not good.
i replaced both fans today & changes the thermostat & coolant so i may try to run it again tonite & see if the compressor still acts up...i bet it will.
maybe i should clean the iac just to do it.
any suggestions are welcome

If condensor fan is not working the head pressure will rise, the refrigerant will not condense into a liquid, cooling will be poor and excessive head pressure is not good for the system.

Get the condensor fan(s) working and see what happens. 94
