Default AEM vs. Unorthodox

Chirs of hondaprelude.com has a 1990 honda prelude like mine. We have the exact same engine setup. Execpt he bought Unothodox cam gears and dyno'd them to performe best @ +4/-4 I/E. I have not bought my cam gears yet, I was hoping that if I save over $100 and buy AEM cam gears that I can set them the same? Is this totaly out of the question, am I a moron to think that since we have the exact same engine and engine setup I can set i/e setting the same? Thanks...

You can set your gears the same as your friends, but cars are dynamic entities. His settings will be a good baseline for you, but take it to a dyno to find out where your particular car wants the gears set at.

FWIW, I'd take the UR Ultra TR 5-bolt gears over AEM's 3 bolt gears any day, even though the URs cost an arm and a leg (over $500 for DOHC!).

Wow +4 and -4? That's a LOT of adjustment!!!

I'd agree. Skunk2 are the best for the $$, but if you want perfection, get Toda/Spoon or something like that.

Sometimes the Skunk2 gears aren't perfect.

I have heard good things about skunk2, the only problem is that they don't make cam gears for my engine. Either AEM or unorthodox. $500 for DOHC head? Damn! I can get AEM's for $109 shipped. Disscisions...

The skunk2 gears won't work for your engine? I thought the B20A and B21 had the same size gears as a B18A, etc.....

Nah dude, this is the old B20/B21 from the 3rd generation Prelude. I don't think the cam gears are the same as the more recent B16/17/18/20.
