AEM Engine Management System
Has anyone here seen one of these units first hand, specifically for a Prelude? Im interested in getting one at some point, but since the system is so new, I havent heard a lot of opinions on it. Someone over on PreludeOnline (which is down for a while) went to a live demonstration, and he said he didnt think the unit would fit in a Prelude without doing some modifications. Not exactly Plug-n-play, IMO. I thought the cases were specifically tailored for each model of car, but apparently not, its just the plug that is model-specific. So, has anyone gotten their hands on one?

aem's software absolutly sucks. download the beta version from their web site. play around with it and count how many times it crashes. 1300 for a ecu and software that fits on 1 floppy. not worth it at all. hondatas setup is much more stable but still buggy
The one guy that I spoke to that had tried the AEM on a 98 Prelude said that the base maps AEM provided were completely useless. He complained to AEM, and they told him that they had given him "universal Honda maps"... Upon doing more research, he discovered that they were based on B16 maps...

as far as the software crashing, not yet. i have used version 3.0 and 3.07 and the updates from .43 to .50.
true that the base maps for the honda's could have come from one run on one type of engine. that map is there so that you can get the car started, not start ripping 20psi down the street after you plug it in. that software is designed for you to be able to drive to a dyno with a knowledgable tuner. the ems software has absolute control over all functions that the ecu had. it is overwhelming upon install because there are so many functions. it is a true stand alone unit. if you are not interested in sinking some time into the unit, then maybe the hondata is for you.
