Default Aem Cam Gears,timing problem.

I just put back together a b16 motor and when i was doing the timing i use the pins to lock the cams in place but i notice that the marks on the aem adjustable cam gears were at 3 aclock not straight up. and also the guides for the pins to hold the cams in place are to the side right? not straight up like the b18 engine.
so i went ahed and turned the engine over but i did not want to start, I did a compression check and the gauge. berely moved up like to 10 or 15psi so i was wondering what i should do with the timing marks should i place them straight up.
or is something else wrong?
