No. You can take off the splash shield underneath and peel back the wheel well liner, that's how I did it.

what do u think of doctoring the intake tube so it doesnt have to got that far into the fender well...lets cut the intake tube so the filter will sit just below where the stock intake box sits....less worry of hydrolocking yet still getting cool air right?....

does the splash shield go ack on or did u leave it off...how long for the complete instalation? im waiting to try out the v2 aem cai..so hopefully before the summer it will be released..
thanks

If you cut the pipe, then you have a short ram, which is much cheaper to begin with. AEM makes them go just past the sheetmetal, to make it outside the engine bay but as short as possible. If you cut the pipe it will be in the engine bay and will get warmer air, you can buy/make heat shields, but it will never get as cold of air as a CAI.

Put the splash shield back on, this reduces chances of hydrolocking. THey make bypass valves if you are really worried about hydrolock, I just stay out of puddles deeper than a foot anyways. Took me about 2 hours altogether, mostly cause the install instructions suck.

2 hours? why that long...isnt it just a bolt on....rubber hose, clamp around im,breather line to valve cover, and wiggle the intake tube down into the fender well, tighten the reinforcement screw, done...am i wrong?

It's pretty easy, but all the little things add up, the bolts on the wheel well liner and splash gaurd, etc. plus I always double check that I tighten all the screws and hoses and everything so I take a little longer. But I always do the job ONCE!

i hear ya ..do it right the first time so u dont have to do it over.. i hear there extremely loud and kinda annoying vs the lil gain u get from it...i was thinking of adding some kinda rubber tubing to extend my stock air box into the fender well...like a vacuum hose off a vacuum cleaner or something of that sort..whats the diameter of the lip that sticks out the bottom of the stock air box..do u know...ive seen bsq's DIY..i was thinking like that except use something more flexible...

If you call 7 HP little gain. I'll take every HP I can get.

Not sure what the diameter is, don't have my stocky anymore. I have seen people use that dryer flex tube from Home Depot though. Flow isn't as good as smooth pipe, but it will get colder air at least.

oh ok 7 hp is worth it ...ive heard its not a big gain but 7 hp is a noticable gain i would think...how loud is it..not bad at normal cruising and screams at WOT..or just screaming for the hell of it..lol...any lil tricks u can spare me to tweak out any lil extra power on a stock setup till i can get some money up for header,exhaust,v2 aem cai...i leaning towards the itr exhaust for minimal noise..any other after market exhaust that can give me good flow, low noise, and if so what header makes a great combo with it...nothing cheap..i rather wait and save then buy cheap and have to buy over...

lil question...my car was bought used..84,xxx miles...but the suspension sems lower than most stock tegs i see...my wheel well to tire gap is about 1 to 1 1/2 fingers...think it has springs or this model sits like it does...the ride feels stock, meaning not on the hatd side due to lowering ....both passsenger side shocks seem to be on there way out,or there just loose, maybe even its just the bushings..i dunno..i "ll have to wait till the moneys there to drop it and put shocks as well go with new oem ruber bushings in the lca's and where ever else they may be needed...car tends to rattle a lil over bumpy roads...thes are reasons i wish i had or knew someone in my area to give me a hand with mods..maybe things could get done quicker not having to pay shop cost and could help me out with ideas for mods...how does h&r oe springs with koni reds or tokico blues sound...i dont need a super expensive set up...just better than stock handling with a lil drop...heres the car... ...a lil different now..euro clear lenses, piaa extremes in headlights and front bumper lights, amber bulbs in corner blinkers..i ned to take more pics...

The CAI will be pretty quiet under 2500 RPMs at about 3500 it gets louder and continues to get louder until it screams at WOT. Fun to do under bridges. For exhaust ITR is a good way to go, or Magnaflow catback or Apex WS. I have a DC header cause I have to woory about smog and CARB exemption. Some things to try for free are tighten up your throttle cable, advance your timing a couple degrees, take your stock resonator out( you will have to do anyways when you get a CAI). You can usually get a little better throttle response by doing those mods.

the resonator is out already..was out when i bought the car... at least i think its out the k&n drop in screams a lil and theres nothing attatched to that lil lip that sticks out the bottom of the stock box..i tightened the the throttle cable already but it may need a just a lil more tightening..as far as advancing the timing...i was thinking of that but should i wait til i get the new timing belt in 2 weeks.....and thanks for taking this time to kinda coach me...its appreciated...

i meant to ask...does advancing the timing as simple as loosening the distributor bolt and turning it a lil towards the firewall or away....and a lil meaning 1-2 centimeters....

Get a timing light, either buy one or borrow one from Autozone. But make sure your idle is set right, then jump the 2 pin service connector like if you were checking CEL. Shoot the timing while advancing it slowly so you can get it right.
