Default AEM Air Bypass Valve

Okay, I just got the aem air bypass valve for my intake. First of all, I wasn't aware that you had to cut the intake pipe in half. That's fine, no big deal, but then I read some reviews on the AEM bypass valve to find out that some people say you actually lose power with it, and that it serves no purpose unless your car is submerged in water. Does anyone know if there is truth to all this? Does anyone have experience with the bypass valve?

The only way you will have water induction in dangerous amounts is if the filter of your intake is submerged. The bypass kit will guard against this, but I've never driven through a lake in the three years I've had my un-bypassed Si.

well, think of it this way, if something is physically blocking the flow of air in your intake, its gonna cost you horsepower. also i know of some people who've had problems with it. one person in particular had part of the valve come loose and it got stuck in the throttle body

I have heard countless people say you loose power with them becuase it disrupts the flow of air through the tube. and yes, it also does nothing unless the filter is submerged in water..thats the point of it.

The disruption of smooth airflow resulting from the bypass valve is so minute it should not even be considered!!

Better safe than sorry

My sister has an AEM CAI. Late at night in a storm she ran through a puddle that didn't look that bad but was actually pretty deep. Her car being lowered made it even worse. Bent valves, a damaged cylinder wall, and a broken rod was lesson hard learned. She fixed everything and the first thing she bought was the AEM Bypass Valve.

I think its a waste of money to get the cold air a short ram will work just fine and i have never had any problems with water because it does not go down towards the front bumper
