nope just remember that from researching.....but just because it was spouted here on h-t doesn't necessarily make it fact.

to me for spreading hearsay

for actually chopping one up to find out

no to acl.

oem for life!

yay for being able to clearance to spec through bearing size, and not machine work.

My helms manual seems to give me a range of allowable clearances. I was wondering if you knew what the "spec" clearance you speak of is?

Can anyone tell me the actual size difference between each color bearing is? I honestly don't know.

To be honest i very rarely have any bearing be out of the allowable range in the Helms manual. That doesn't always mean i use any bearing but at the same time the clearance i shoot for isnt the same for every motor. Are you saying that the clearance honda chose for its stock 150 hp motor is the same clearance you should be using for a motor that makes much more than that?

The reason most of us are on this forum is to modify and increase the power of our engines. We replace the pistons, change piston to wall clearances, ring gap, and add all sorts of aftermarket products. Many changes are made and non-honda parts are fitted. I dont see running an aftermarket bearing that give me the clearance i need to be a problem.

I can't believe how stupid this thread is

People build motors every day with ACL bearings. They don't get any machine work done. They don't use OEM bearings. Everything ends up in spec, and the motors run fine.

I know some of you would like to show everyone else how much e-knowledge you have, but please, keep it to yourself. Some of us actually build motors and fast cars instead of spending all day becoming e-mechanics and bench racing.

Has anyone considered mixing acl with honda bearings? Say an acl race bearing on the upper side of the rods to take the abuse of the combustion, and honda in the cap to allow easy fine tuning of the clearance.

You can't change the size of only the bottom bearing. The bearings have to be the same thickness as a pair or they won't match up where they meet.

Hmm. I guess it's possible. I personally would never do it. If Earl felt comfortable jumping a size, that's his thing. I know I wouldn't want a .0001"x2 out-of-roundness on any of my caps. I'd rather keep the sizes paired up and have less ideal clearances.

jumping sizes would actually push your crank out of centerline if you jumped to far. but i dont think .0001 is gonna hurt anything with .0015 clearance.

if you look at the thickness of the bearings on the chart posted above....jumping from one size to another may be the exact same size bearing...

ACL bearings are the same way. I had to shuffle em around till the clearances on all the bearings were about the same. Didn't mix in any honda bearings.
