Default AC cutting power

My AC has been cutting a lot of power recently sometimes to the point my car feels like its going nowhere. I have D16y7 so its not a powerful motor but I still find it weird that my AC takes that much power. It idles where its supposed to the only difference is more shaking in the steering wheel. And no power. Any thoughts?

Vibration is normal with A/C load. It is the nature of small cars, excessive drop or vibration can point to engine mounts that are too compliant, but you will never eliminate all of the vibration.

Points of concern: Belt tension, bearing wear, refrigerant overcharge, etc.

Youre right,it should not produce a very big power loss. Have the system checked. The compressor may be dragging excessively....

Sounds like what the 97 hatch does when the AC is on. Going up any steep incline we have to turn off the A/C to regain any kind of passing power. It's always been that way.

How about we define what "a lot of power" is? That description of the problem is vague at best.
