Default About A/C control unit

I have 95 civic with A/C and when I press the A/C button it will stay on for a period of time, but will shortly go out. When I say go out, it will no longer continue to blow cold air. But the A/C button is still pressed in. Could this mean there is something wrong with the CLIMATE CONTROL CONSOLE? Does anyone have any ideas, or have had this problem?

Thanks

I had this problem in my 92 Hatch. Turns out one of the valve stems where the freon is pumped in was cocked to the side and about half of my freon had leaked out. My car would blow cold for about 2 minutes, then warm for about 10, then cycle like that over and over. I just went to an AC shop and got both valve stems replaced and new freon put in.

I can have the A/C freon checked... but my main concern was the fact the A/C light switch was turning off. I was thinking there could be a wiring problem. Did your A/C switch light go off while still pressed in the ON position, while it would blow the hot air?

Wiring diagrams from something like a Helm repair book will help.

If your refrigerant is low then the low pressure switch will shut down the system so you don't destroy your compressor. If your expansion valve is plugged then there's a high-pressure switch to shut it down.

What I don't know is whether this shuts off the lamp on the switch...

There's also a connection to the fan switch. If you turn the fan all the way off, your AC shuts off. This does shut off the lamp in my Hondas.

Thanks to all for the helpful information. I will have the freon checked today and take a look with the fan wiring.
