Default '98 CR-V: P0301 code

Howdy, I have a '98 CR-V giving me a P0301 code (not accompanied by any other codes). CEL started flashing last night, but ran fine otherwise. Had the code pulled this morning, drove over 100 mi and ran fine except for one time when coming to a stop, it chugged a bit, then after accelerating away, the CEL returns, but solid this time.

A little history:
Was having reoccuring P0420 codes for the past couple of months, very intermittent. Replaced cat and bank 1 O2 sensor (twice). After the cat the light stayed off for a couple of weeks, then this occured.

When I bought the 'V 5k miles ago, I heard about the head issue, so I checked the valves, which were all well within spec, but adjusted them all to the loose side of spec just to be safe - after all, "a slappy valve is a happy valve" :-)

Fast forward to today: in a panic, I checked the cyl #1 valve clearances (as well as the others) and all are right where I put them 5k miles ago. I assume this means I can rule out the head issue?

Are there any other common 'V issues related to this code? I'll go ahead and replace the plugs and wires anyway, but if there's anything else that these particular vehicles are prone to I'll start there... injectors maybe? Whatever it is seems to be somewhat intermittent...

Next question: Are the injectors interchangable? Can I switch #1 with #2 and see if the code moves with it? I did this with the spark plugs, we'll see what happens.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks
